r/technology – What Does 1GB of Mobile Data Cost in Every Country?

$8 per 1Gb in the US? Figured it was higher. US IT Guy here, Central US to be more precise.

Was paying about $10 per Gb between my wife and my phones, until we moved to Unlimited data (Google Fi) when we added a third phone. Before the move, it was max of 12Gb, before throttling, with a max of $100 (at 10Gb) for data. With all three phones, unlimited, we can go to 20Gb. Last bill was $145.18; advertised as $150. That’s about $50 per phone (paid off).

My previous cell carrier changed up their packages, and it was confusing. When we wanted to up our data, we were still “grandfathered” in to the old packages, and required us to buy new phones to use the new packages, as the old was no longer supported. GoogleFi didn’t care what phone you chose, outside of the phone supporting the cell towers around you and it took a SIM Card.

With my old cell carrier, I had finished paying off one phone, the other was about half way or so through. We couldn’t increase data, we couldn’t “buy more data” if maxed out, nothing. 2Gb of data per phone, shared, plus a bonus’ed 5Gb(?) when my wife joined a few years prior (I thought was only to last a year). If we bought new phones, and changed packages, there was no sharing of data, and no roll over. Wife is near wifi a bit more often than I, and I travel a fair bit (IT work, various clients and towns), so having the extra data when I need it helps (generally music, work chat including pictures to/from).
