r/technology – Tesla faces a huge fine in Norway for throttling battery charging speeds

The problem isn’t that they are limiting the charging speed or capacity for longevity, the problem is they rolled out an update after they sold the cars.

It’s obviously a case of planned obsolescence. Easier to get away with when they do it with cellphones, because they can make the case that the changes are necessary for the OS to update and you need to update your OS to keep playing updated apps.

But with cars, think of it this way, if a car is advertised to get 26 miles per gallon, and that is what it gets when you buy it, but then 2-3 years down the line, you find out that the manufacturer forced all garages to update some software in the car in order for it to pass inspection, and that update knocked it down to 18 miles per gallon. People would be fucking pissed.
