r/technology – Over 10,000 women are suing Google over gender pay disparity

The sad thing is the guys probably had more soft skills and were worth being paid more.

I’ve only worked with a handful of women in software whom I would consider competent. The rest just sucked my time and energy. Requiring their hand being held every step of the way. Call me sexist but it’s just my observation.

Software is a discipline where the output of a good one can be magnitudes greater than another. You cannot be taught software, it is learned through experience and depends on many soft skills in computing.

Some Asian kid who played at 300apm in StarCraft will double, triple, quadruple the output of others. Those boys playing on PC games for the last two decades have learned so much about general software outside of their formal education. There’s not a lot of women with this sort of experience.

I would actually expect men to be paid more on paper, because on average they bring more to the table.

Its just the nature of the hobbies men hve historically partaken in. That’s years of experience missing. Decades for a 30 year old software engineer who got into PC’s at the age of 10.

All of the guys or most of them have these soft skills, and it’s very rare for women to have them.

Sure you got a degree and have similar work experience, but the guys all spent their teenage years building soft skills YOU DONT HAVE.
