r/technology – Amazon’s Cost Saving Routing Algorithm Makes Drivers Walk Into Traffic – “It’s Fucking Horrendous, Honestly. [You’re Crossing] Multiple Lanes, Busy Traffic.”

Amazon Driver in Georgia here. This is all 100% true, but another thing they don’t talk about is how they stuff the delivery vans to the point where you cannot walk to the back of the van to get any packages. It can take up to 5 or 10 minutes to unstack all your boxes and package totes to find the right box or tote. In the step vans (UPS box trucks) space isn’t an issue with ample space for a “200” stop route but for the smaller vans like a Mercedes Sprinter or Ford Transit, a driver has a very limited space to work within. There is no consideration to what vehicle a driver is using. If you are assigned that route you take ALL the packages for that route no matter how much room you have left. And if you are a heavy set guy like myself it can be tricky to move around in. We appreciate the people who order from Amazon and most customers are very polite and offer to give water and such. But the system we use to deliver makes the job harder for no reason. So please don’t feel bad for ordering anything without you we wouldn’t have work. Just keep in mind if a delivery is late we are trying!
